The benefits of nursing bras

It may be tempting to throw on your favourite crop top. But wearing a maternity bra designed specifically for pregnancy and nursing comes with a number of benefits:

When you’re about to leave the house, it is essential that a good nursing bra be accessible. Quick-growing babies need quick access their mommy’s milk when they feed or express!

Leaky boobs

In the early days before your milk flow settles, your boobs can get leaky. Nursing bras usually come in stretchy breathable material that is big enough to fit breast pads, should you need to soak up excess milk.

Those all-important clips that you find on most maternity bras provide easy access at feeding time, wherever you happen to be!

Resist the urge to simply size up your everyday underwear, as comfort is key during pregnancy and beyond. Breast tissue is very delicate and sensitive to change. Wearing a well-fitting bra through pregnancy will help minimise stretching and reduce back pain, as it will help distribute the weight evenly, easing any strain on your neck, shoulders and back.

How to measure for a maternity nursing bra

What all you need : Wear a non padded bra, stand in front of a mirror and grab a measuring tape.

Nursing bras are a necessity for any breastfeeding mom, and it’s important to make sure you’re wearing the right size. Not only will it provide the support you need, but it will also be more comfortable and can help to prevent leaks. Here’s how to measure for a nursing bra:

Band size

First, take a comfortable measurement around your chest, just below your bust. Make sure to breathe out before you measure so that you get an accurate number. So if you measured 34 inches, your band size would be 34.

Bust size

Measure around your chest again, this time at the fullest part of your bust. If you measured 38 inches, this would be your bust size.

Cup size

To find your cup size,  Subtract your band size from this number (38-34= 4). Each inch represents a cup size i.e. 1=A, 2=B, 3=C, 4=D, 5=DD and so on.

So if your bust measurement was 38 inches and your band size was 34 inches, that would mean you’re a 34D.

or you can use bra size calculator to find your correct size in an easy way.

Nursing bras come in all different sizes and styles, so it’s important to take the time to find one that fits well and provides the support you need. With these tips, you’ll be well on your way to finding the perfect nursing bra for you.

Fast Answering Questions

1. What is a nursing bra or maternity bra or feeding bra?

A nursing bra is a type of bra that allows a mother to breastfeed her child without having to remove her bra. Nursing bras have cups that can be opened so that the baby can easily nurse from the mother’s breasts. Nursing bras also often have straps that are wider than traditional straps to provide more support for nursing mothers.

2. How does a maternity nursing bra differ from a regular bra?

Nursing and feeding bras have clip-down functionality, which allows you quick and easy access your breasts for nursing with one hand. Their straps are easy to adjust, and there is an extra support around the back and sides. So if you’re looking for a bra that will help make breastfeeding easier, a nursing bra is definitely the way to go.

3. How many nursing bras you need?

The answer depends on a few factors, including how often mother plans to breastfeed, how often she needs to wash her bras, and her personal preferences. Generally speaking, most women need at least two or three nursing bras, so that they have one to wear while the others are being washed.

4. When should you shop and start wearing a nursing/ feeding bra?

Most women begin wearing nursing bras once their breasts start to produce milk. However, some women may choose to wait until they are a little bit bigger so that they have more support. It totally depends on you, I got mine before delivery when I packed my hospital bag. But your size will change drastically once you start breastfeeding, so do not over purchase, just 1 or 2 would be fine until you start breastfeeding and reach maximum size you will have.

5. How do I know if I’m wearing the right size nursing bra?

The best way to determine if you are wearing the right size nursing bra is to get fitted by a professional. Many stores that sell bras offer fittings, or you can go to a specialised lingerie store.
